about

In 2013, XL Records were ready for the apotheosis of Willis Earl Beal among the Rock & Soul Legends of all Time.
Unfortunately, Willis himself was not.

Though hailed by critics as his best record to date; the Artist himself would grow to regard it as a maudlin & motley monument to his Alcoholism, Marital Infidelity and fragile mental state at the time.

It was around this period when he started wearing what many incorrectly called a "Zorro Mask" after watching Tom Waits wear a similar mask in his concert film "BIG TIME" on New Years' Eve
and growing increasingly weary of perpetuating a predictable archetype of so-called "Blackness in America".

Though the Record was overseen by proven successful Producers Rodaiah "Roddy" McDonald of XL Records and the Chicago Veteran Matt DeWine of Pieholden Suite Sound with the inclusion of a few other guest musical performers;
the artist himself considered it an ostentatious exhibition of a lost, desperate man "throwing paint at the wall" determined to achieve balance and failing to do so.
In some cases, however, he would achieve only infamy due to his slippery grip on anything familiar to him.

The marketing for this record would also spawn the "Church of Nobody" which functioned as a Philosophy, a Touring Band and an unfinished video series for the Artist.
Fellow Musical Autuers Archie "King Krule" Marshall and Kirin J. Calinan each contributed performances to the video series.

Television shows "Orange Is The New Black" and "Mystery Road" as well as Feature Films "Bleed For This" and Tim Sutton's "Memphis" would go on to use music from this Record.
Actress Mischa Barton would also star in a controversial and somewhat ill-advised music video for the song "Coming Through" which also features none other than Chan "Cat Power" Marshall on backing vocals.
The Artist had previously drawn a "likeness" of Marshall on his reluctant debut "Acousmatic Sorcery".

The original LP included an anti-capitalist Manifesto (ironically), a set of behavioral rules called "The Principles of a Protagonist" (also the name of a Novella and an earlier EP by the Artist), some inspirational poems and a large self portrait, of sorts.

The record lists "Nobody" as the executive Producer and that is
Damn right.

Don't let them win. Only purchase the digital of this music here. I'll pay my rent with it.
